THE SCHWERT FAMILY:

Family and Descendants of
Bernard (Bernhard) Otto Rebescher
(1897 - 1954)

Spouse: Melanie M. Dengler
(1899 - 1979)

Spouse: Helen Dombrowski
(1901 - ????)

Bernard (Bernhard) Otto Rebescher was born in Buffalo, New York, on February 15, 1897. He was baptized as "Bernhard" on February 21, 1897, by Fr. Ferdinand Kolb of Saint Boniface R.C. Church, 124 Locust Street, Buffalo. His sponsors were Carl and Veronica (née Modrezewska) Schwertfeger (Schwert).

Bernard's baptism record indicates that he married Melanie ("Aunt Lonnie") M. Dengler on June 11, 1921, at Saint Peter (Pierre) R.C. Church (later, Our Lady of Lourdes R.C. Church). Melanie was born on February 13, 1899, in Buffalo, the daughter of Theodore and Mary (née Birch) Dengler.

The couple had one daughter, Betty Jean.

Bernard divorced Melanie to marry a friend, Helen Dombrowski. This action greatly upset the Rebescher family, and Bernard remained estranged from much of the family for the remainder of his life.

Bernard died of cancer on June 11, 1954. He is interred in Lot 22, Sec. 5, United German & French Cemetery (Pine Hill), Cheektowaga, NY.

Melanie died of a heart condition on November 1, 1979. She is interred in Lot 46, Sec. H, Mount Calvary Cemetery (Pine Hill), Cheektowaga, NY.
